Celebrating Excellence: Honouring Atlantic Canada’s Most Inspiring Immigrant Award Winners

On Friday, January 17, our team had the privilege of attending the 2025 Most Inspiring Immigrants in Atlantic Canada Awards Gala. Organized annually by My East Coast Experience in Halifax, Nova Scotia, this prestigious ceremony honours the immigrant trailblazers and leaders who have made outstanding contributions to their fields of work and their communities. 

At Ignite, we are thrilled to extend our congratulations to our Most Inspiring Immigrant Award recipients, Doyin Somorin and Oriana Cordido. The dedication and care these two remarkable women demonstrate in their roles at Ignite and beyond are truly inspiring. We are immensely proud to celebrate their achievements and the lasting impact they have on our communities. 

Upon receiving her award, Doyin shared, “This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my family, mentors, and everyone who has been a part of my journey in Canada since 2016. I dedicate this award to all immigrants who demonstrate unwavering courage, resilience, and determination as they forge new paths to brighter futures.” 

Likewise, Oriana reflected, “[It] is incredible not only to receive this honour, for which I am very grateful, but to be in this room with incredible immigrants who have given their all to be where they are today! I [also] want to dedicate this award to all Venezuelans around the world, like me, who carry our country in our hearts—and to the awesome Fredericton community for supporting me every step of the way. This recognition is a reminder of the power we have to make a difference, no matter where we are.” 

As we reflect on this memorable evening, we are reminded of the incredible impact immigrants have in shaping stronger, more vibrant communities. Doyin and Oriana’s stories are powerful examples of resilience, dedication, and the transformative contributions immigrants bring to Atlantic Canada. At Ignite, we are honoured to celebrate their achievements and remain committed to amplifying the diverse voices that drive innovation and positive change in our region.
