A Day in Central York: Fall Colours, Fancy Boots, and Chairlift Courage
Yesterday, my colleague Julia and I hit the road for a beautiful drive to Central York, and honestly, we couldn’t have picked a better time of year. The trees were showing off in every shade of red, orange, and gold imaginable. It was one of those drives where you keep saying “wow” every five minutes… and then again, just to make sure the other person saw it too.
Crabbe Mountain- View from the top of the mountain
Our destination? The Fall Festival of Colours at Crabbe Mountain, and let me tell you, it lived up to the name. It was absolutely stunning. But before we could fully take it all in, we experienced our first fail of the day: footwear.
I showed up in heeled fancy boots (because apparently I thought I was going to brunch, not hiking), and Julia rocked bright white sneakers, bold choices for a mountain trail. Despite our questionable fashion decisions, we bravely took on the self-guided hike… and somehow survived with no boo-boos or falls! Honestly, that might be the real miracle of the day.
The highlight, though, had to be the chairlift ride. I’m not exactly a fan of heights, but the view was so breathtaking that I completely forgot to be afraid. The rolling hills, the endless forest, the colours, it was like stepping into a painting. I swear, no photo could ever capture how incredible it looked. You just have to see it for yourself.
After our mountain adventure, we wandered through the vendors and activities, picking up a few fall essentials: pumpkins, mini donuts (because you can’t not), and some perfectly crisp apples from Laughing Apple Farm. Our hands and our hearts were full.
We wrapped up our day with lunch at the Crabbe Mountain Inn, and wow... what a cozy little gem. The atmosphere felt like being welcomed into someone’s home, and the food hit the spot. We refueled with sandwiches and poutine (because balance). Between the friendly staff, the warm vibes, and their surprisingly affordable stay-and-play packages, it’s definitely a spot worth checking out.
As we drove back, full of carbs and happiness, Julia and I agreed on one thing, we’ll definitely be back. Central York in the fall is pure magic… just maybe next time we’ll rethink the footwear choices.
