A Day in Nashwaak with the Ignite Marketing Team

Last Friday, my colleague Ashleigh and I spent a wonderful day exploring Nashwaak, a community filled with natural beauty, hidden gems, and incredible people.

Our first stop was Dunbar Falls, accessible via the Dunbar Falls Trail, a short 1.6 km hike that takes approximately 10 minutes. We recommend bringing rain boots, as the trail includes a few muddy spots and shallow streams. Despite that, it’s an easy and enjoyable adventure for the whole family. Once we arrived, we were rewarded with a stunning view of the falls. Surrounded by peaceful scenery, rushing water, and birdsong, the setting felt like something of a fairy tale. It is a beautiful place and one we look forward to visiting again.

Next, we visited Sweeney’s Forest & Garden Ltd., a family-owned business that has been serving the community since 1967 in Durham Bridge. Specialized in the sales and repair of most makes and models of outdoor equipment, the business is now led by Mayor David Sweeney, who warmly welcomed us and shared the story of his family’s legacy. His passion for both the business and the community was evident throughout our visit. If you’re looking for reliable outdoor landscaping tools and friendly customer service, Sweeney’s Forest ang Garden is well worth a stop.

As lunchtime approached, we continued along the scenic route to JPM Canteen & Dairy. Sherry greeted us with a warm welcome and, we enjoyed delicious hamburgers and poutine, before treating ourselves to ice cream in flavours such as Death by Chocolate and Bubble Gum. If you’re visiting the area, this spot is a must-try.

Beyond the canteen and dairy bar, the JPM brand also includes a convenience store and restaurant, limousine service, and towing company, making it a true community hub.

Our last stop was Hidden Brook Farm, where owner Pam Allen-Le Blanc welcomed us with open arms. What followed was one of the most memorable experiences of our journey. Over a chat in her kitchen, we shared a conversation filled with wisdom, peace, and genuine joy. It quickly became clear that Pam has a deep passion for helping others and living in harmony with nature.

Pam shared the inspiration behind Hidden Brook Farm and Reiki from the Farm, her journey into Reiki, and the path that led her to become Canada's first Licensed Reiki Master Teacher with the International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT) in 2019. She also spoke about her work with essential oils, what drew her to the practice, and the fulfillment she experiences when it contributes to someone's well-being. During our visit, she gave us a glimpse into some of her latest work, including her upcoming Reiki card deck and her recently published book, The Reiki Business Book, sharing the passion and purpose behind each project.

Her journey as a Reiki Master, educator, and practitioner, including her work in animal communication, is truly inspiring. If you'd like to learn more about Pam and Hidden Brook Farm, be sure to explore the links included in this article.

One of the highlights of our visit came when we stepped outside to meet the horses. Watching them trot toward us was a truly special moment. Their calm presence and gentle energy were unmistakable. We spent time learning about their unique personalities and stories, making for an unforgettable experience.

A shout out and big thanks to Sherry, to Mayor David Sweeney, and to Pam for making our day in Nashwaak so memorable. We left inspired by the people we met and the stories they shared. We look forward to returning soon to discover even more of the hidden gems and welcoming faces that make this community so special.
