Slowing Population Growth in New Brunswick: A Shift Toward Stability
New Brunswick’s population reached approximately 856 thousand in Q2 2025, marking a 0.1% increase, this growth was the lowest quarterly growth in a downward trend since the peak of 1.0% in Q4 2023. This deceleration reflects a more controlled immigration policy aimed at sustainable growth. While the pace has slowed, the province continues to experience positive population gains, which is encouraging amid national demographic pressures. A more gradual increase may allow time to align housing, services, and infrastructure with demand. However, slower growth could pose challenges for labour force expansion and GDP performance, which highlights the importance of balanced population strategies to support long-term economic resilience.
