A Day in Fredericton - North Side Edition
Your favourite marketing team is back in action, visiting our favourite spots across the Capital Region. My colleague Ashleigh and I ventured out to our first visit of the year and decided to give Fredericton’s Northside a little love from Ignite.
The first stop was Heaven Inn Devon – a beautiful historic home that has been transformed into a cozy short-term rental up top while its lower level houses a hair salon and the Heaven Inn Devon Cafe. (Just wait for the warmer months to see their pop-up ice-cream truck.)
This cozy spot has maintained all its historic Fredericton charm while updating to include bright natural light, blush pink accents, and coffee themed decor. Dear Heaven Inn Devon, can we get access to your Pinterest board?
To-go cups in hand, our next stop took us to Whimsy, a gift boutique on Main Street known for housing 100% local and maritime made items – everything from ceramics and jewelry to local coffee and handmade soaps. If you’re all about shopping local, Whimsy has you covered.
Our next stop was yet another gift boutique that hosts items from local artisans. Crow Hill Treasures truly lives up to its name with their collection of knick-knacks and oddities. Each walk through the store unearths more treasures, from funny signs and crochet flowers to artisanal room sprays and beautiful crystals. While you’re there, make sure you say hello to their new neighbours, Inkception Tattoo.
One thing to expect from Fredericton is there is always an event happening somewhere. Our event of the day happened to be the Atlantic Plant Expo, hosted at the Nashwaaksis Lions Club. I might not have a green thumb but I was certainly green with envy of all the beautiful plants brought in from vendors across Atlantic Canada.
We stopped for lunch at Mama’s Pub – a Northside staple – and could not resist a little comfort food. This classic pub has tons of seating, a cozy atmosphere, and a bar stocked with their very own signature craft beers. Between their classic pub-style menu and their friendly staff, Mama’s Pub will have you coming back for that homey feeling every time.
What kind of adventure ends without dessert? Buttercream Dreams is a dream come true for sweet lovers. Ashleigh and I stood in stunned silence for at least five minutes before we could even begin to decide on what we wanted. Loaded cookies, hand decorated cakes, cupcakes piled with chocolate and caramel, cream filled doughnuts, mouthwatering squares... I still might be dreaming. Every day features new and delicious flavour combinations which sell out fast. This is one sweet spot that you can’t sleep on.
Ending on a (sugar) high note, our day on Fredericton’s Northside unearthed lots of new treasures.
